About us

In 2010, two friends – architects Elena Gaydar and Fedor Gridnev – had a vision to design and build furniture and other architectural features in the UK.

To get the job done right, they needed to prototype in 5 axes, but no 5-axis CNC (computer numerical control) milling machine was available for less than £75,000.

So, they designed and built their own 5-axis milling machine. Soon, they discovered that many other people similarly needed affordable, high-quality 5-axis CNC milling that was compatible with common CAM software, and they began a CNC service to make prototypes for London-based designers and architectural firms. In September of 2014, they founded the London-based 5AXISWORKS, launched a successful crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter, and started building and shipping the first affordable additive (3D printing) and subtractive (5-axis milling) CNC desktop machines.

Today, those machines – now available in various models – are employed to create high-quality dental clear aligners, architectural models, sculptures, tool parts and many other items in offices and labs around the world.

Each machine acts as a "factory on a desktop," permitting iterative design with affordable and repeatable prototyping, testing and production of a wide range of products.

Because of Gaydar's and Gridnev's vision, these breakthrough tools now allow others' visions to be modeled and produced -- precisely, repeatedly, in a relatively small space and at a reasonable cost.
